One Billion rising(OBR) is a global campaign, which was initiated by playwright and activist Eve Ensler and her organization, the V-day. The movement is a call to women survivors of violence and those who love them, to gather in a public place, break the silence and release their stories for a timely justice.

As part of the One Billion Rising Campaign being held from 1st November 2013 to 31st March 2014, the Assam Mahila Samata Society (AMSS) organized a programme on 2nd December 2013 at Shraddhanjali Kanan, Zoo road, Guwahati. A short play was staged on the occasion by Actor's Guild on discremenation faced by a woman in different periods of her life. Another attractive feature of the event was a painting - acrylic on canvas, made on the spot by a group of artists from Govt. College of Fine Arts, Guwahati.  

The programme was attended by more than a hundred people from various fields including the media. Social activists Junu Bora, Sheetal Sharma and Surjya Bordoloi, lawyers Suniti Sonowal, Ijumoni Thakuria and Literacy activist Anuradha Baruah spoke on the occasion. They stressed the need for awareness generation among mass women about the state provisions as well as for timely action of the service providers. The State Programme Director, AMSS, Gita Rani Bhattacharya, in her welcome address expressed concern over the alarming growth rate of violence against women cases in Assam in the recent years.
